The Feds Fumble Again

By Adam Kazda | November 28, 2016

This week Senator James Lankford (R-OK) released the second edition of his oversight report, “Federal Fumbles, 100 Ways the Government Dropped the Ball.” Volume two of the series details $247 billion in wasteful and inefficient Federal spending, and lists solutions for each example of government waste.

Highlights from the report include:

  • A $1 million National Institutes of Health campaign telling mothers not to let their teenage daughters go tanning.
  • $500,000 for an exhibit that shares the best smells of medieval times.
  • A $500,000 program to send text messages to discourage chewing tobacco.
  • $35,000 grant to assist “starving” artists with public housing options.
  • Overreaching regulations like the proposed USDA regulation that would require gas stations to sell items like tofu, shrimp, and almond milk if they want to continue accepting food stamps.
